The Pablo de Olavide University (UPO) will host the 5th Ibero-American Congress <em>\u201cUniversities Committed to Inclusion and Their Social Environment: The Fight Against Vulnerability\u201d<\/em>. This initiative is promoted by the Ibero-American Chair of Education in Human Rights, the Pablo de Olavide University, and the Erasmus+ EDUDER project (<em>Right to Equality in University Studies for Vulnerable Groups<\/em>). In addition to support from the European Commission, the congress is backed by leading academic and institutional organizations across the Ibero-American region, including the Ibero-American University Association for Postgraduate Studies (AUIP), the Ibero-American Ombudsperson Federation (FIO), the Ibero-American Human Rights Network for Citizenship (RINDHCA), the Union of Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (UDUALC), the Ibero-American Environment Network (REIMA), and the Ibero-American Observatory for Human Rights and Education.<\/p>\n<h3>The social role of universities<\/h3>\n<p>Leading researchers, students, and institutional representatives are collaborating in the event, gathering more than 70 professionals from 20 universities in 12 Ibero-American countries. Ibero-American countries will address the main challenges facing higher education in terms of inclusion, access, and retention of students in vulnerable situations, as well as the role of universities as agents of social transformation. The congress will also serve as a platform to share the main results and progress of the EDUDER project.<\/p>\n<p>This congress highlights the social mission of universities and their key role in society\u2014not only as educational institutions, but also as drivers of socially committed initiatives that respond to societal needs, such as inclusive higher education.<\/p>\n<h3>A programme with an Ibero-American perspective<\/h3>\n<p>Over three days, the programme will feature keynote lectures, panel discussions, and scientific paper sessions with the participation of specialists from Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Key topics will include university social commitment, barriers to inclusion, the role of faculty and students, institutional support structures, and the use of artificial intelligence to reduce social and digital gaps.
