On October 29, 2024, the world lost Paulo Vinicius<\/strong>, who passed away suddenly at the age of 59. His departure leaves a deep void, but also a legacy of tireless work for public education<\/strong>, inclusion in higher education<\/strong>, and social activism. His impact was significant, not only at the Universidade Federal do Paran\u00e1 (UFPR)<\/strong> in Curitiba, Brazil, but also across Latin America<\/strong> and Africa<\/strong>, where he contributed to the cause of equality and access to education for all.<\/p>\n

Paulo Vinicius<\/strong> was born in Belo Horizonte<\/strong>, Minas Gerais, into a working-class family. His mother, do\u00f1a Eug\u00eania<\/strong>, was a key figure in his life, inspiring him to value knowledge and education. Throughout his life, Paulo Vinicius<\/strong> stood out for his intellectual generosity<\/strong> and his firm commitment to social inclusion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Academic and Professional Trajectory<\/strong><\/h3>\n

He moved to Curitiba to train as an air traffic controller<\/strong>, but soon discovered his true vocation: psychology<\/strong> and education<\/strong>. He graduated in 1991 from UFPR<\/strong>, where he later completed his master\u2019s degree<\/strong> and earned his PhD<\/strong> at the Pontifical Catholic University of S\u00e3o Paulo (PUC-SP)<\/strong>. His thesis on racial relations in Portuguese language textbooks marked a milestone in the fight against racism in education<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Throughout his career, Paulo Vinicius<\/strong> became a reference in Education for Ethnic-Racial Relations<\/strong>, leading research and shaping generations of students committed to social justice and antiracism<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In 2017, Paulo Vinicius<\/strong> was appointed superintendent of Diversity, Inclusion, and Affirmative Policies<\/strong> at UFPR, where he promoted policies to ensure the access and retention of Afro-descendant and low-income students in higher education. He was an unwavering advocate for quotas<\/strong> and an ally to social movements.<\/p>\n

His work was key in creating and implementing the Inclusion Goals Plan<\/strong> in 2004, which promoted equal opportunities in academia.<\/p>\n

A Legacy of Humanity and Warmth<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In addition to being an academic leader and activist, Paulo Vinicius<\/strong> was an exceptional human being. He loved nature<\/strong>, cooking<\/strong>, soccer<\/strong>, and Brazilian traditions such as samba<\/strong> and cacha\u00e7a<\/strong>. He was an excellent host, always ready to share moments with friends and colleagues. His commitment to the university<\/strong> went beyond formal teaching, aiming to create a space for encounter, celebration, and learning.<\/p>\n

An Unforgettable Leader<\/strong><\/h3>\n

As a host of the III Ibero-American Congress on Education in Human Rights<\/strong> and the I Global EDUDER Meeting<\/strong>, Paulo Vinicius<\/strong> left an indelible mark on the hearts of all participants. His legacy lives on in the policies he defended, the students he shaped, and the projects he led.<\/p>\n

Paulo Vinicius\u2019s<\/strong> work in the EDUDER project<\/strong> continues to inspire future generations. His fight for diversity<\/strong>, human rights<\/strong>, and inclusive education<\/strong> remains a beacon for all those striving for a more just world.<\/p>\n

Paulo Vinicius leaves an eternal legacy<\/strong> and becomes an ancestral guide<\/strong> for all those who continue his work and fight for a more inclusive future.<\/p>\n<\/div>
